William Ti, Jr.
With 15 years of extensive design and management experience, Architect Ti is a strong advocate of social architecture which promotes a more humanist and socially relevant practice of architecture. The work of WTA in its first decade is characterized by the sole purpose of creating spaces that catalyze a greater humanity; spaces with an understanding of the inhabitants within their contextual environment. Apparent in their product is a position against subservient repetition; their work is defined clearly as a response to site, materiality, amenity, scale and culture. Architect Ti’s dogged determination to design for the benefit of greater good is the very essence of an inspiring precedent not solely for the industry, but nation as a whole. In his own words, “good architecture is not a random accident that exists beyond logic or purpose; successful spaces are arrived at thorough careful deliberation.” Also distinct and almost thematic in his projects is the response to creating socially relevant architecture and serves as a versatile space for a multitude of functions and is both susceptible and resilient to future change.
As a visionary and game changer, Architect Ti has always had the desire to elevate the standards of design, and as such, he has been at the forefront of honing the talent that is innate in Filipino designers through educating, modelling and mentoring. He has consistently been part of design competitions as a judge and coach, and has recently joined the academe teaching architecture. He is also a columnist of a major publication and hence, uses this as a venue to inspire and propagate information and new ideas on design.
In the international arena, he has made waves when he and his firm represented the Philippines in the World Architecture Festival. His over 100-manpower complement firm continues to expand with a plan to open an office in China is in the works. International projects are also in the drawing board. This significantly proves how he persists to make contributions to the growth of architecture in the region.
A graduate of the National University of Singapore, Architect Ti is a firm believer in sustainable planning and the advantages of urban living, he tries to imagine a better-curated more design-focused society where beautiful things and pleasant environments are ubiquitous, even in the densest city centers.
